Fruit Extract is a concentrated fruit flavour profile made by reducing fruit concentrate to syrup and then combining it with a solvent like alcohol. It’s a high-potency natural sweetener, about 200 times as sweet as sugar.

Myrciaria dubia (camu camu) fruit extract contains vitamin C and phenolic compounds, which have antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria.

Antioxidants

New up and coming berries are also showing promising results, displaying high anthocyanin content.

Antimicrobial

Fruit extracts are rich in various bioactive compounds that have antimicrobial effects. These compounds inhibit the growth of pathogens and prevent bacterial infections, such as diarrheal diseases.

These compounds include organic fruit Extract acids, terpenes and polyphenols. They can either directly inhibit bacterial growth or modulate the expression of virulence factors, which reduces microbial pathogenicity.

Flavonoids such as naringenin, quercetin and sinensetin from citrus fruits have been shown to be effective against E. coli, Salmonella and Pseudomonas, while anthocyanin-rich blueberry extracts have been found to be effective against methicillin-susceptible S. aureus and MRSA. Anthocyanins have also been shown to hinder bacterial adhesion by inhibiting the formation of extracellular matrix.

A study has shown that prickly pear juice can have astringent and antibacterial properties, which may help reduce acne breakouts. However, more research is needed on the exact role of fruit extracts in skin care. It is recommended that you conduct a patch test before using any new product, particularly one containing an extract. This can be done by diluting the powder in a small amount of water and applying it to a part of your skin that is not sensitive.

Anticancer

The XS-(fr)-C and TT-(fr)-M fruit extracts of Xanthium strumarium and Tribulus terrestris, respectively, decreased the expression of pro-growth genes and inhibited migration and invasion of colorectal cancer cells through ATG4B suppression and autophagic flux. Moreover, apoptosis induction in colorectal cancer cells by RCFE was associated with the increase of BafA1 protein level and PARP cleavage.

Anti-inflammatory

Fruit extracts can have a wide range of skin-boosting benefits. They can help fight hyperpigmentation, balance the skin tone to even out suntans and other discolorations, regulate oil production, remove blackheads, soothe irritation, reduce redness, and promote cell turnover.
