Panel Mount Connectors for Automation and Sensory Applications

For panel mounting in automation and sensory applications, these connectors are convenient, easy to install and provide a rugged connection. Pre-terminated with partially stripped wires, they’re ready to use and come in an array of sizes.

Panel mount refers to a mechanical feature built into the design of one connector half that allows it to be secured in a panel hole or external case/enclosure. It’s different from Board Mount which transfers 4 pin panel mount connector forces acting on a PCB-mounted connector to lower stress on the fragile electrical solder connections.

RS PRO M12 Circular Connectors

With a rugged design that can withstand the elements, this connector is ideal for automation and sensory applications. Its right-angle body orientation makes it easy to install in tight or awkward spaces. The wide operating temperature range ensures a long service life. Its IP67 ingress protection rating means that it’s safe from dust and water.

Number of Contacts

The amount of conductive contacts (pins) housed inside the connector that mate with wire or cable to transmit signals, data, and power. The number of internal contacts is varied by application. Most commonly, the contacts are keyed to prevent mis-mating. They are also rated for voltage and current to specify the maximum allowable current, power, or both.

Insulator – the material used to encapsulate the contacts and protect them from each other waterproof plug and socket connector and the shell. This material also serves to hold the contacts in the correct position when mating the connector halves and provides alignment when insertion is complete.

Connector Accessories

Additional parts that serve to position, guide, clamp, secure, or seal the connector halves. They may include o-rings, gaskets, washers, and strain reliefs. They can also include backshells, flanges, and grommets for installation and cable grips to allow easier insertion. These accessories can help protect the connectors from environmental hazards or extend their functionality. For example, o-rings and washers can prevent liquid or air leakage, while flanges or gaskets can provide protection from mechanical shock.
