What is a Paper Card?

Creating and sending handmade cards is a popular and meaningful craft. Card makers use a variety of supplies and techniques, including stamping and die cutting.

Card stock is thicker than regular paper and is available in different weights. Typically, a free aqueous coating is used to protect the card from fingerprints and water damage.

Size

Paper cards are typically used to send messages to friends and family, such as birthday wishes, Christmas greetings, or thank yous. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and are often made with recycled material. Some of them even contain seeds, so that the recipient can plant the card and grow flowers like snapdragon or alyssum. They also have a beautiful, glossy finish.

Paper and card comes in a variety of weights, measured most commonly in gsm (gum per square metre). This is the equivalent to lbs in the US and Australasia. The higher the gsm, the thicker and sturdier the card or paper.

The standard cardstock weight for cards is 80lb, and it’s a good Paper Card choice for most purposes. However, if you plan to use a lot of embellishments and layering, then you may want to choose something slightly heavier.

When selecting cardstock paper, check that it is the correct size for your printer. Many printers will automatically scale your paper to fit the tray, and this can cause problems if you are using the wrong size.

If you’re using a digital printer, make sure that your printing settings are correct. For example, you should ensure that the “page scaling” option is turned off, as it can cause text to become stretched or distorted.

Design

A paper card is made from a sheet of card that has been cut to different sizes, with or without a pre-printed background. It is usually printed on one side, although some manufacturers print two cards per A4 page (A3 in North America). The weight of a paper or card is usually measured in grams per square meter, which is also often abbreviated as g/m2 or gsm.

For example, Moo use an innovative process to produce their tree-free papers, using recycled t-shirt offcuts. The result is a crisp and subtly textured paper that looks great, feels wonderful, and prints brilliantly.

Paper

Card stock paper is a type of heavy paper that is used to make greeting cards and other paper craft projects. It is usually made from a blend of hardwood and softwood fibers with fillers that contribute to the paper’s strength, opacity, and appearance. The process of blending these elements is key to achieving the best quality paper stock.

Cardstock paper is available in a variety of colors and textures. Some are glossy, others have a dull finish, and still others are textured or embossed. Some are even reversible! This gives the card maker a variety of options for creating unique and personalized cards.

Generally, the heavier the paper stock, the better it is for making cards and other paper crafts. Cardstock paper that is 80 lb or higher is the best option for cards. This weight is also ideal for die-cutting and stamping.

The thickness of cardstock paper can be measured in microns or gsm (grams per square metre). Most ordinary photocopy paper is around mifare desfire ev3 80 gsm and thin card is about 200 gsm.

Paper is made from cellulose fibres that are extracted from wood pulp and recycled waste paper. The pulp is then mixed with other chemicals until the right texture and thickness is achieved. The fibres can be seen when the paper is examined through a microscope.

Printing

In card printing, the printed image is created using a process called transfer printing. The dye from a colour ribbon is transferred to the plastic card through multiple passes. This makes the card durable and long-lasting, as well as adding a high level of security.

Cardstock paper is usually made from a blend of hardwood and softwood fibres, plus fillers. The blend provides the needed strength and stiffness, and the fillers help create a smooth surface for printing. Cardstock paper is usually manufactured in a range of thicknesses, from thin to very thick. The thicker the cardstock, the more rigid it is.

There are a variety of finishes available for cardstock paper, including matte, glossy, and uncoated. Glossy finish is popular for cards with lots of graphics and color, while matte finish is more suitable for black text. You can also get textured or linen cardstock.

You can use a Cricut machine to create the cards, which is a handy tool for people who don’t have access to professional printers. The software prompts you for the type of cardstock and offers a large selection of fonts and graphics, such as little balloon drawings.

Before you start to design your card, determine how it will be used. This will help you filter out the options and choose a design that is best for your needs. For example, if you want your card to be used as identification, then you’ll want it to have a more formal design, and possibly double-sided printing.
